"Strauss beautifully paired her black and white photographs with quotes directly from the individuals -- giving their voices a new venue to be heard...Through her work, Jane eloquently joined the space where art and disability inclusion connect...Her engaging imagery was artfully portrayed in the photographs and touched many lives."
Robyn Awend, Director of Visual Arts, Sabes JCC

"Jane's six-week exhibit, "A Part or Apart?" opened the eyes and hearts of many individuals who saw it at the Sabes JCC.  Her exhibit is a visual representation of the importance of including people with disabilities in sacred communities, particularly the Jewish community...This exhibit continues to open doors for people with disabilities and models the advances made in our own community."
Shelly Christensen,Program Manager,Jewish Community Inclusion Program for People with Disabilities

In honor of Jewish Disability Awareness Month, our congregation recently organized and facilitated a wide variety of educational programming and activities to create better inclusion and awareness about the special needs community.  We were thrilled to be able to offer our SMP (Shabbat Morning Program) students, teenage and adult staff the opportunity to view a photo gallery of images and words produced by Jane Strauss, from her book, A Part or Apart.  The students and staff were very moved by the photos and words, and the gallery provided an interactive and engaging process of bringing the topic of disability awareness alive.  The photo gallery was also the perfect way to set the stage for our students to participate in a dialogue focused on disability awareness and what we all can do to make our community a more welcoming and inclusive environment.  Thank you Jane!
